Grand Theft Auto 3 Review

The Grand Theft Auto series can rightfully be considered one of the most famous and most important for the industry. GTA has literally spawned a new genre - GTA clone, and the number of clones can start with Diablo clones and Dota clones, and individual gameplay elements that first leaked into GTA are still found in various games. At the same time, the GTA gameplay itself cannot be called innovative, because carjacking, police chases, missions on wheels, we saw all this back in Driver 2, released in 2000 on PS. However, it was GTA that took such gameplay to a new level and made the genre what we see it today.

Liberty City, 2001.

The story in GTA 3 begins with a bank robbery. After a successful case, the former partners instantly become sworn enemies when Catalina, in an extravagant way, decides to leave her "boyfriend", and at the same time the main character, named Claude, although we will not hear his name in the game.

Claude is captured by the police, but he manages to escape imprisonment when the convoy in which our protagonist was transported was attacked. Claude and another convict manage to escape. From that time on, Claude embarks on a path of revenge, but he does it in a rather strange way by doing dirty work in various mafia clans. The fact is that Claude is a character without a character, a real errand boy, a six, ready to take on any job without asking unnecessary questions, in fact, all employers treat him like a six.

It's hard to call GTA 3 a game with a plot, it's a game about gameplay. For its time, the gameplay component was simply revolutionary, here we have cars with better physics than in most races of that time, and shooting, well, almost like Max Payne, only without slow mo, although the game has special tablets that slow down time. But most importantly, we have access to a large, open metropolis consisting of three islands, which are gradually opening up, where we could do whatever we wanted. In addition to plot tasks, we can get a job as a taxi driver, ambulance driver, firefighter, and even a cop. When completing tasks, we will receive simply unrealistic monetary rewards. Money in GTA 3 is generally a separate topic, they are credited here for any action - hit a person? You have $50 on you! Hit a car? You have $30 on you! Completed the task? You have $100 or $500 on you! The only problem is that there is nothing to spend money on. Since most of the tasks are criminal in nature, we will constantly have problems with the police, the more we sin, the more cops will be on our tail, it's simple.

But not everything is as smooth as it seems. Most of the story missions are extremely monotonous and boring. Basically, we'll have to steal cars, kill people, give someone a ride, and shoot someone from time to time. And also, in most missions, a timer will bother you, which will constantly count the time, leading to the failure of the task. And what causes those timers in tasks, apparently even the developers don't know. Claude may be a good driver, but he's not a good shooter, because with most weapons, he can only hit the target while standing close. Of all the variety of weapons, only a grenade launcher can actually be considered effective.

There is nothing to say about the graphics, it was beautiful for its time, the design of the city was quite interesting, but the gray color scheme was very annoying. The music was also from those days - hip-hop, rap, trance, there was even a radio station with opera and classics, as well as 80 hits. But the most interesting thing was the talk shows on the radio, which were very often called by the characters of the game, and complained about their problems, and got into funny situations.

GTA 3 was a real breakthrough for its time, everyone knew GTA 3, everyone played GTA 3. But after the test of time, it comes to the realization that GTA 3 is far from an ideal game, with the same type of tasks, with a bad plot, crooked shooting, and an unpleasant color scheme. But we must pay tribute to the game, because it was the first. L'étendue des événements sportifs disponibles constitue un argument de taille en faveur de cette structure.
