Plan validity and the 180 day activation window

Every timer on your eSIM, explained in plain words.

There are exactly three clocks attached to your eSIM, and only one of them should concern you on the beach. Here is each one, in the order they start ticking.

1

The activation window: 180 days

Starts at purchase. You have six months to install and activate the eSIM, which makes buying during a flash flight sale completely safe. Most travelers never notice this timer exists.
2

The QR scan window: about 30 days

Once you scan the QR code, the eSIM typically wants to connect within 30 days. The practical rule: install one or two days before you travel, not three months before.
3

Plan validity: your actual travel days

The 7 or 30 days on a fixed plan, or your selected dates on Unlimited, start counting at the eSIM's first connection in your destination. Not at purchase, not at installation. Landing day is day one.

Top ups add data inside the current validity window. Needing more days is what regional and Unlimited plans are for.

So the optimal play: buy whenever the price is right, install the night before you fly, activate on landing. Three clocks, zero stress.
